Tie

Tie A curved line placed between two note heads of the same pitch. Shows that the note should only be played once but held for the combined value of both notes. These are used so that the eye can easily see each beat region of the measure making it easier and quicker to read accurately. Notes can not extend over the bar line and usually should not extend over the imaginary bar line. The same symbol is a slur if placed over two or more notes of different pitches.
