Legato An Italian word that means tied together. In music, it tells performers to connect notes to each other without stopping the sound between as they play. A curved line is drawn between the first and last notehead of the phrase to show the notes that are connected together. The same curved line is used for the symbol for tie but goes between two notes that are the same showing that the note will be held for the full value of both notes.
